Professional DV cameras use a 3-chip video sensor to record video in the DV format onto a digital tape format known as DVCam. This professional equipment should not be confused with consumer cameras that use the "MiniDV" format and are unsuitable for professional work. Similarly, the words "Digital Video" should not be misconstrued as meaning video that plays on a computer, which is more accurately known as MPEG video.
